Laser Tools Racing celebrates 10 exciting years in the
British Touring Car Championship

In 2014, Laser Tools motorsport sponsorship evolved into the Laser Tools Racing brand that since has been much-loved by fans in the UK and from around the world.

After a number of years sponsoring drivers at Le Mans (Lister Storm LMP) and the World Touring Car Championship, in February 2014, the inception of Laser Tools Racing marked the beginning of an exciting chapter for Laser Tools in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). LTR’s driver Aiden Moffat embarked on his BTCC career driving an NGTC (Next Generation Touring Car) Chevrolet Cruze during the 2014 season. This inaugural year proved to be a steep learning curve for the young driver. While maintaining steady performance throughout the season, Aiden secured a couple of points-scoring finishes during the final rounds at Brands Hatch.

However, the Chevrolet's twitchy chassis left him dissatisfied, prompting a crucial decision for the 2015 season — a switch to a new car.

For the 2015 season, Aiden Moffat and Laser Tools Racing opted for a Mercedes-Benz A-Class. The move to the Mercedes-Benz marked a fresh start for Laser Tools Racing, setting the stage for the next phase of their BTCC journey.

Moffat's breakthrough moment arrived at Donington in 2017, when he secured his first BTCC victory. Starting from fourth on the grid, the 20-year-old driver delivered a stellar performance during the first race at the Derbyshire circuit. Fast-forward to 2019, Moffat began to feel that the trusty Mercedes was starting to lag behind newer, more-developed cars in the championship. Aiden debuted his new Infiniti at Snetterton in August 2019, marking a significant shift in his BTCC journey. Exciting news broke towards the end of 2019 that Laser Tools Racing was to become a two-car outfit for the 2020 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship, with 2017 champion Ash Sutton joining to partner Aiden Moffat.

With the Infiniti’s initial success and obvious potential, the decision was made to build two brand-new Infiniti touring cars.

Completed over the 2019/2020 winter break, and engineered with considerable improvements in weight distribution and stiffness. Wind-tunnel testing was completed at MIRA which also gave major aerodynamic advantages over the previous Infiniti. Everyone was getting prepared and looking forward to the start of the season; however, on March 23 the UK lockdown was announced due to the COVID 19 virus, and motorsport with all other sports events and meetings were cancelled or postponed for the foreseeable future.

After a lengthy 282-day hiatus since the last BTCC racing, the 2020 season finally kicked off at Donington. In the first race, the two Infinitis of Sutton and Moffat secured respectable 14th and 15th place finishes. Though, it was in Race 3 that the Laser Tools Racing Infiniti team truly made their mark. Ash Sutton, displaying his prowess and starting from P8 on the grid, not only clinched a resounding victory but also recorded the fastest lap of the race. This stellar performance marked the beginning of Laser Tools Racing's 2020 campaign, setting the stage for what promised to be an impressive season ahead. By the end of the 2020 season Ash Sutton had clinched his second drivers’ championship, and Laser Tools Racing were announced as the Independent Teams’ Championship winner.

The following year, the Laser Tools Racing sported a three-car team, adding four-time National Hot Rods (oval racing) World Champion Carl Boardley to the mix, a third new Infiniti having been built for Moffat. The result was back-to-back BTCC Drivers' Championship victories for Ash Sutton. The team also secured top honours, clinching the 2021 Independent Teams' Championship, along with the coveted overall BTCC Teams' Championship.

For the 2023 BTCC season, Laser Tools Racing forged a dynamic partnership with MB Motorsport, with the talented Jake Hill taking the wheel of the WSR-run BMW 330e M Sport. This strategic alliance marked an exciting new chapter in Laser Tools Racing's relentless pursuit of excellence, and it yielded immediate dividends. Throughout the course of the season, Jake Hill amassed an impressive total of five race victories, consistently demonstrating his skill and determination on the track, a remarkable achievement that underscored his prowess as a top contender in the BTCC. Ultimately, Jake closed out the season with a well-deserved third-place finish in the championship standings, capping off a highly successful campaign for Laser Tools Racing and MB Motorsport.
